Survakari, Selishten Dol Village, Pernik Region [BULGARIA]

For over 50 years the Yordanovi family has established themselves as masterful mask craftsmen for the Bulgarian Surviskar and Kukeri traditions.

“My grandfather, father and I, Lyudmil Yordanov – for years we preserve the Bulgarian traditions, particularly the custom “SURVA”. With great diligence and love we create our works of art. Side by side, for years we have built our style, which is recognizable throughout Bulgaria. All kukeri masks made by the Yordanovi ART family are made entirely of natural materials. The construction is made of linden and red willow wood, then covered with well-treated sheepskin, and decorated with horns from animals that are not endangered species. For years, the works has been presented by our Survishkar group “Yordanovi ART and Friends.”

This is the first Sofia group to unite young and patriotic people who appreciate, preserve and transmit one of our beautiful Bulgarian traditions. The group participated in a number of different folklore festivals, and ours labor over the years has been honored with several individual distinctions from the largest international masquerade festival , “Surva” in the town of Pernik. We have three Yordanovi ARTs galleries, exhibitions of Kukeri masks in the capital, taken part in dozens of programs and articles in Bulgaria, and for world-proven media.”
