Saqra in the Quechua language means devil, however, these devils are mischievous rather than evil. They are jesters of sorts. The Saqra maintain a power game with the Virgin del Carmen, because they tempt her, but at the same time they are not able to look her in the eye. That is why when she goes through the town in procession, the Saqra, standing on the roofs and balconies, slowly twist and cover their faces as she passes.
No two creatures are the same. Their beadwork is some of the most beautiful artistry in existence, all created by hand by the Saqra and their families. The song that plays is the traditional song of the Saqra to which they perform an intricate dance.
