The Kukeri of Ivaylovgrad are located in the southeastern corner of Bulgaria, nearby the borders of both Greece, and Turkey.
Kukeri Day has been celebrated in Ivaylovgrad since 1914, when the ancestors of the inhabitants of Ladzha neighborhood came there from the Bulgarian villages in Anatolia. The Kukeri group of Ivaylovgrad (neighbourhood Ladzha) is the only active group in the entire Haskovo region. They are considered one of the most unique in the country.
On Kuker Day, they perform a dance and walk through the town, to chase away the bad spirits and provide a good harvest, health and happiness for the inhabitants.
