In the Town of Kalofer, the Kuker custom dates back to the 60s of the last century. Beforehand, there had never been such a tradition in the town.
In addition to the main masked ‘Startsi’ characters in Kalofer’s Kukeri games, the band is always accompanied by two people with goat costumes, who are called “chepishi.” This is a dialect word of Turkish origin for ‘goat.’
